Steve Epting and Elizabeth Breitweiser deliver what the story calls for: a grounded, measured approach without visual exaggeration or eye-popping colors. To TKO's credit, the art team is stunning.Except, of course, it's a single volume for new publisher TKO. I know Ennis wrote War Stories for both Vertigo and Avatar, and Sara feels like a logical extension of that series. The story is set in 1942 during the Nazi advance on Russia. Sara's my first Garth Ennis war comic, and it's a doozy of a tale focusing on the titular Sara, a female Russian sniper.

After reading Sara, I discovered I had some thoughts about the book.

If you don’t want to take my word for it though, maybe listen the Alan Moore who called it “One of the finest works of career.Spurred on by TKO's announcement that they'd donate half of any purchase made to a comic book store of the buyer's choosing, I bought two relatively safe bets: Goodnight Paradise by the Unknown Soldier team ( Joshua Dysart and Alberto Ponticelli) and Sara, by Garth Ennis, Steve Epting, and Elizabeth Breitweiser. If you don’t want to take my word for it though, maybe listen the Alan Moore who called it “One of the finest works of career.” I loved following the story of this Sara and her bad ass crew of women killing some Nazis. Have you ever read a comic that paces itself slowly, but instead of feeling slow, it feels like every single beat is measured precisely to maximize the weight of the situation? Have you ever read a comic and thought how perfectly you could envision panels from it on the movie screen? Sara hits those notes in spades. He is a master of subtle facial expressions that really give you emotion from the characters he draws. Steve Epting has drawn a ton of amazing comics, but his run on Captain America is legendary. He created the definitive version of the Punisher and he gave us this little comic called The Boys (you might have heard of since it has a pretty successful show now). This ironically doesn’t feel like that, but it still absolutely feels like Garth Ennis. Garth Ennis is known for filling comics with hyper violence, graphic language, gruesome imagery and a whole lot of poking fun at superheroes. The thing is, that may not be the only enemy they are dealing with. Sara is the best sniper in a group of seven women snipers who are on a mission to kill a whole bunch of Nazis.
